Today, on March 13, 1874 (Philippines):
General Leandro Locsin Fullon, a revolutionary fighter (for both Antique during the Philippine revolution and the Filipino-American War) and a Provincial Governor, was born on this day in Hamtic, Antique..
He joined the Katipunan shortly after the revolution against Spain broke out in 1896 (22), even though he was a student.
After the Spanish lost and the United States tried to annex the Philippines, Fullon and Arcadio Maxilom continued to lead the guerilla warfare and was one of the last areas to successfully resist the American’s efforts. He finally surrendered on March 22, 1901.
On March 13, 2004, to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth, the National Historical Institute unveiled a life-sized statue in his honor.
General Fullon died on October 16, 1904 (30). I’d be interested to find out how or why he died, as I was unsuccessful.
